This
series of work takes as its central concern the genesis of an aesthetic style
and the evolution of this style into a fully developed and interpretable mode
of representation. Modelled on the aesthetic of the photographer William
Eggleston these paintings, using the still life genre as a platform and a
constrained language of mark making, adopt and reconfigure his visual language,
creating a circulation of mimicry with regard to aesthetics. The paintings
exemplify the methods by which we come to interpret and understand a specific
aesthetic style, which is governed by its escalating visual context through
varying media.
