MUSHROOMS LIKE LACE is a solo exhibition by London-based sculptor Charlie Franklin.

For the second instalment of Motorcade/FlashParades’ INCUBE8 series, London- based sculptor Charlie Franklin has taken over the gallery space for an intense flurry of activity. Her work is directed through an experimental use of specific use of materials, both traditional art and everyday substances, to create an exploratory abstract ensemble.

Sprawling and theatrical, the work seems to be the aftermath of some kind of event or performance. The left detritus is intended to be energetic and playful and allow for multiple suggestions or readings. The forms appear to be a state of emerging or dissolving, growing and dying. Varying surfaces and textures open avenues for interpretation and provide visual motifs that allude to the physical actions of mark making, natural and man-made environments, and the constant struggle between chaos and order.

MUSHROOMS LIKE LACE has been particularly informed by nature documentaries, exploring psychological landscapes, and the possibility of communing with materials.

Charlie Franklin (b.1983 London) completed her BA in Fine Art at Middlesex University in 2005 and her master’s degree in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, in 2008. Recent exhibitions include ‘Other Structures’ (London), ‘PITV’ (Stockholm) and ‘Inland’ (Suffolk). She is one of the winners of The Whitechapel Gallery East End Academy Studio Prize 2010 and has recently been awarded a residency to Iceland, at The Hafnarfjordur Centre of Culture and Fine Art, in 2012.

Harriet White - New Paintings

Harriet White - New Paintings

Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th September
11am - 5pm

Harriet White's work involves large scale paintings reflecting conflicting senses of intimacy and glamour. The use of luscious, textured makeup and the heightened colour evoke an immediate sense of dazzle and seduction, whereas the scale and cropping can imply a certain exposed vulnerability.

Hackspace kick off our INCUBE8 series this Thursday evening with The Mad Hackers Tea Party!

"Mad Hackers Tea Party is an exhibition of some of the bizarre devices Bristol Hackspace has constructed over the past few years. In true hackspace style, much of it is built from parts obtained from skips, Freecycle, charity shops, bargain basements and... John's loft."

Join us for an eccentric evening of the weird and wonderful!
